The 9th Annual Meeting of SIAM Central States Section

October 5-6, 2024 | Kansas City, Missouri

Hosted by UMKC Division of Computing, Analytics & Mathematics

Meeting Information

The 9th SIAM Central States Section Annual Meeting will be held on Oct. 5-6, 2024, on the Volker campus of the University of Missouri-Kansas City. The annual meeting aims to promote applied and computational mathematics by providing a platform for researchers and practitioners at all stages of their careers to exchange ideas and foster collaborations. Many participants are members of the growing SIAM-CSS community, including faculty, postdoc researchers, and graduate students from the 30 universities and 12 SIAM student chapters in the eight central states.

This event will provide an opportunity for researchers to facilitate a transfer of knowledge, networking, and exchange of novel ideas in applied mathematics, numerical analysis, scientific computing, and related fields. The interdisciplinary nature of these activities will provide avenues for collaborations between researchers in the Central States region and beyond. The 9th annual meeting will particularly promote the participation of early career mathematicians from all over the U.S., thereby influencing the research interests and directions of those researchers attending the event. Consistent with its predecessors over the past eight years, the 9th annual meeting will provide a platform for early career faculty members, postdoctoral researchers, and graduate students to present their research findings and gain fresh insights and inspiration. Moreover, this event offers a great opportunity for participants to engage in interdisciplinary dialogue, exchange ideas across various disciplines, and refine their communication and presentation skills.  The 9th annual meeting aims to extend invitations and foster participation among researchers from historically underrepresented groups, and faculty from institutions where opportunities to attend major research conferences might be limited.

The scientific focus of the annual meeting will encompass a broad range of topics within applied mathematics and computational science. While the exact themes and emphasis may vary depending on the specific interests of the mini-symposiums organizers and participants, common areas of focus at such meetings include but not limited to Mathematical modeling, Numerical analysis, Partial Differential Equations, Optimization, Scientific computing, and Interdisciplinary Applications.
