The School of Science and Engineering (SSE) was established through UMKC Forward, a university initiative that called for the joining of all the computing, science, mathematics and engineering programs into a single academic unit.
This was a bold move by the university to create multidisciplinary learning, academics, research and civic outreach for the benefit of all students, faculty, alumni and friends. This new structure will create opportunities for shared experiences, interdisciplinary course options, broader learning engagement and inspired new research endeavors.
SSE is built to allow students more flexibility in completing their degree, so they can tailor their education to their passions and unique skills. The new structure encourages students to gain experience in more than one area with certificates, minors and double majors, which sets our graduates apart when they enter the highly competitive job market.
Housed within the Robert W. Plaster Free Enterprise and Research Center, the Innovation Studio provides access to new technologies for rapid prototyping. Create and manipulate 3D models using augmented or virtual reality tools, print those models in the 3D printing lab or build working prototypes in a fully equipped fabrication shop. Together, we can take your idea from its earliest stages to production.
