Taking the Exam

**A few sections are blended learning. You will be required to review the section and take a quiz, then discuss them in class.

Included in the class:

  • 35 hours of PMP training, geared toward exam content in a live, interactive format
    • 30 hours of virtual in-class training
    • 5 hours of blended learning (independent read/study/test, then group discussion)
  • An interactive, live class delivered via Zoom
  • Class documents (slides, worksheets, etc.) available on a Google Drive 
  • Team and individual activities similar to classroom activities
  • Online Exam Simulation Application from PMTraining.com

  • Exam Study Manual - The Ultimate PMP Certification manual by Douglas B Boebinger
  • This class is an exam prep class which includes the required 35 education hours. This class does not include the exam. After you apply to take the exam (PMI.org), you will schedule your exam with a testing center.

Pre-Class Assignments

  • Browse PMI.org, under Certifications/PMP find and read through the Exam Content Outline.
  • Attend the free class info session being held on Monday, March 3 at 7:00 pm Central time, or watch the recorded session later. Join the meeting
  • Access the class's Google Drive to obtain additional information.
  • Optional: Sign up for a PMI membership. If you are a full-time student, membership is available for a nominal fee.
    • Obtain the recommended participant provided resource materials (see above).

Can't Make It to This Class? Request a Custom Class for Your Office

Hold the course remotely, at your office site or on the UMKC campus in the SSE executive education classroom. SSE Professional Programs will help you determine a convenient schedule. Fee is dependent on location, duration and schedule, number of participants and materials needed. All participants receive a certificate of completion for completing the 35 required course hours.

About the Instructor

Lyn Heaton, PMP, has been active in the project management field for more than 30 years, both as a project manager and an educator. She has provided project management training to various corporations, the U.S. Army, and UMKC.

Lyn worked for 19+ years in the telecommunications industry at Sprint Nextel. She held the position of project and program manager in various departments. During that time she worked on many of their multi-million dollar projects. Before moving to Overland Park, Kansas, Lyn was an instructor of computer science courses at Austin Community College, Austin, Texas. She holds a bachelor’s degree in computer science from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. She received her PMP in 2001 and holds a master’s certificate in project management from George Washington University.

Lyn is an active member of the Kansas City Chapter of PMI, previously serving on their board of directors as the VP of professional development. She also helped to teach or facilitate PMP Prep training for the chapter. She is currently the President of the Project Management Training Alliance (PMTA), a nonprofit organization that provides support to project management trainers.
