My professional goal was to be a university faculty since my undergraduate days and pursued a Master's and Ph.D. in Civil/Structural Engineering/Applied Mechanics. I have also practiced structural engineering for several years prior to starting my doctoral studies. After my Ph.D. at Louisiana State University, I worked both at LSU and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign as a post-doctoral research scientist. I have been a faculty at the University of Missouri, Kansas City since 2002 and teach in the areas of mechanics and structural analysis and design.
My current research focuses on two main areas; a) Structural Engineering - Blast/Seismic behavior of structures and bridge structures research and b) Bone biomechanics - including orthopedic areas, experimental and numerical simulation of bone mechanotransduction, and dental structure modeling.
