Dr. Fengpeng Sun is a climate scientist with particular expertise in climate change, modeling and impact assessments. Dr. Sun develops high-resolution regional climate models and statistical analysis tools to study the Earth’s climate. He is interested in examining historical climate evolution and projecting future climate change and impacts from a regional and local perspective, which is most relevant to human activities. Dr. Sun's research has been funded by a variety of external funding sources, including NSF, NASA, NOAA, Kauffman Foundation, and Evergy, Inc. Dr. Sun obtained his Ph.D. in Earth System Science with a focus on climate dynamics from University of California, Irvine. After his Ph.D., he worked at University of California Los Angles (UCLA) first as a Postdoctoral Researcher and then as an Assistant Researcher. He joined UMKC as a tenure-track Assistant Professor in 2016. AT UMKC, He recently received the Award for Excellence in Mentoring Undergraduate Researchers, Scholars, and Artists and the Haskell Distinguished Research Award.
