Dr. Mei-Ling Shyu has been a Full Professor in Electrical and Computer Engineering, Division of Energy, Matter and Systems, School of Science and Engineering, University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) since August 2022. Prior to UMKC, she was the Associate Chair and Full/Associate/Assistant Professor at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE), University of Miami (UM). She received her PhD degree from the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering and three Master degrees in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, and Restaurant, Hotel, Institutional, and Tourism Management, all from Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN, USA. Her research interests include data science, AI, machine learning, data mining, big data analytics, multimedia information system, semantic-based information management/fusion/retrieval.
Dr. Shyu was awarded the 2021 IEEE TCMC Service Award, 2020 IEEE Big Data Security Woman of Achievement Award, 2012 Computer Society Technical Achievement Award, and ACM 2012 Distinguished Scientists Award. She received 4 Best Paper Awards and 2 Best Student Paper Awards, all from IEEE Conferences. Dr. Shyu serves/served as an Associate Editor for several journals including IEEE Transactions on Dependable and Secure Computing, IEEE Transactions on Multimedia, IEEE Transactions on Services Computing, IEEE Transactions on Human-Machine Systems, IEEE Transactions on SMC-Part C: Applications and Reviews, etc. and on the editorial board of many other journals. She was the Chair of IEEE Computer Society Technical Committee on Multimedia Computing (TCMC), the Vice Chair of TCMC, a steering committee member (representing Computer Society) of the IEEE International Conference on Multimedia and Expo, and a steering committee member (representing Computer Society) of the IEEE Transactions on Multimedia. She is a member of the Executive Committee of TCMC, and a member of the IEEE SMC Society Technical Committee on Knowledge Acquisition in Intelligent Systems. She is a Fellow of IEEE, AAAS, AIMBE, AAIA, and SIRI.
