Dr. Mohanad Abdulazeez is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Natural and Built Environment (NBE), School of Science and Engineering (SSE) at the University of Missouri–Kansas City (UMKC). He earned his Ph.D. in Structural Engineering from Missouri University of Science and Technology in 2020, where his doctoral work focused on the innovative application of full-scale composite bridge components to develop resilient infrastructure systems.

Dr. Abdulazeez's research lies at the intersection of smart cities, sustainable infrastructure, and computational modeling of the built environment. His work emphasizes physics-based, data-informed simulations to improve resource efficiency and resilience in civil infrastructure systems. He has led and contributed to multiple research initiatives addressing critical infrastructure challenges, particularly in the development and retrofitting of sustainable structures using concrete, steel, and fiber-reinforced polymers. His experimental work spans multi-scale testing of bridge elements and materials, contributing to the advancement of both design practices and materials science in structural engineering.

His research has been featured in leading journals published by American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), American Concrete Institute (ACI), and the Transportation Research Record (TRR), and supported through technical reports for U.S. agencies such as the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT), the Mid-America Transportation Center (MATC), and the Department of Natural Resources (DNR). To date, Dr. Abdulazeez has authored over 40 peer-reviewed journal articles, conference papers, and technical reports.

Dr. Abdulazeez teaches a broad range of structural engineering courses, including Structural Analysis, Reinforced Concrete Design, Advanced Steel Design, Mechanics of Materials, and Computational Modeling. He is an active member of several professional organizations, including the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), American Concrete Institute (ACI), Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute (PCI), and the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC).
