About

Professor Fred Leibsle joined the UMKC Department of Physics and Astronomy in 1996. His research is in a subspecialty of condensed matter physics called surface science where he employs scanning tunneling microscopy to image individual atoms and molecules on surfaces. With this technique, he evaluates methods of creating nanometer-scale structures on surfaces, structures with dimensions on the order of electron wavelengths. In addition, he uses scanning tunneling microscopy to study chemical reactions on surfaces.
